Arizona Unsafe Toy Lawyers
According to statistics compiled by watchdog groups like the National SAFE Kids Campaign, well over 120,000 kids are hurt by unsafe toys ever year in the United States. Laws such as the Child Safety Protection Act (CSPA) obligate designers/manufacturers to make and release safe toys, but 100s of dangerous toys still abound on the market.
The National SAFE Kids Campaign distinguishes several classes of toys to watchdog:
- Toys like darts and simulated or real projectiles. Obviously, an ill-thrown dart can cause serious injuries, particularly if it hits an eye or an ear. However, other toys, like boomerangs and bottle rockets can also cause serious injuries.
- Toys with lead, mercury, or other heavy metals. Lead and/or mercury poisoning can cause brain damage as well as injuries to the kidneys and other vital organs.
- Especially loud toys -- Explosive rockets, high-decibel noise-makers, and even iPods can produce dangerous levels of noise that can cause hearing damage.
- Toy guns, rifles, and explosives -- Firecrackers, cap guns, and other toy explosives can be dangerous and lead to flammability hazards. In addition, kids who run around with old toy guns -- without the orange caps on them -- can get into trouble with the law or potentially be mistaken for actual armed intruders.
- Toys with long straps or strings or cords -- Lassos, long elastic rubber bands, super string, or other similar toys can potentially choke kids.
- Small toys or toys with small parts -- These can present choking hazards, particularly to infants and toddlers.
- Toys with irregular shapes or toys with sharp edges -- These can also be choking hazards in young children, and they can cause cutting injuries.
